The Story Behind The BK Push Pop

Known for its focus on comforting yet healthy food and drink, Charleston, S.C.’s Basic Kitchen presents lighter options in a city where hearty and often-fried Southern cuisine reigns supreme.

Proving that traditional fare doesn’t have a monopoly on local ingredients, Basic Kitchen’s menu features homemade juices, herbs, and plants grown in its covered courtyard garden, and seasonally available produce.

The BK Push Pop, created by beverage director Nathan Wentworth, offers guests a breezy cocktail combining rum, allspice liqueur, and coconut milk with orange and lime juice. "The Push Pop is absolutely a crowd favorite. It has a great texture and tastes complex with all of the spices from the dram and nutmeg, light oil from the coconut milk, and the fresh-squeezed juice,” Wentworth says.

With flavors reminiscent of a tropical vacation, the BK Push Pop “reminds everyone that we do live in paradise down here in Charleston," Wentworth adds.
