The Story Behind The Winter Gimlet

Just because temperatures are dropping doesn’t mean you have to abandon citrusy cocktails like the Gimlet. For this winterized take, I added a bit of smokiness by charring the limes before squeezing them. This is easy to do at home with a torch, and it adds a different flavor profile that might make you think of sipping cocktails by the fireplace.

You can also swap out the lime for lemon or your favorite winter citrus, like grapefruit or blood orange.

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ ounces gin
  • ½ ounce charred lime juice (details follow)
  • ½ ounce simple sugar

Directions

  1. To char your lime, cut the fruit in half, and blacken with a torch. You can then juice your lime as you normally would.
  2. Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice.
  3. Shake cocktail then strain into a coupe glass.
