The Story Behind The Port of Havana

If I’m out drinking but not feeling like my usual adventurous self, I will almost always order a Daiquiri. It’s one of those deliciously refreshing cocktails you can enjoy all year long.

The Port of Havana spins off a classic Daiquiri, incorporating fresh strawberries as well as tart lemon curd for texture and flavor alongside the traditional white rum. It all started when a friend brought me some lemon curd as a present. (I think she intended for me to bake a cake or something; that was never going to happen.) Instead, I took it as a challenge! I wanted to find another use for it and quickly decided that it would be a great Daiquiri addition. I added some chopped strawberries as well, and that fresh, fruity taste plays nicely with the lemon curd.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ ounces white rum
  • ¾ ounce lemon juice
  • ½ ounce simple syrup
  • 2 bar spoonfuls lemon curd
  • 2 strawberries, chopped

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Shake hard to chill and combine.
  3. Fine-strain into a coupe glass.
  4. Garnish with chopped fresh strawberries.
  5. Enjoy!
