The Story Behind The Breakfast Martini Sour

This week we are bringing you a hangover cure. This cocktail has many of the ingredients of a gorgeous English breakfast in it, including an egg and orange marmalade. It makes sense, since the cocktail was created in London, at the Library Bar, in 1996. Bartender Salvatore Calabrese was enjoying his usual espresso one morning when his English wife brought him marmalade on toast. The idea of the Breakfast Martini was born that day and Salvatore wasted little time on its creation, taking the jar of English orange marmalade to work with him that very day. The cocktail was perfected in a single day and became a popular signature cocktail at the venue.

Now, the Breakfast Martini may just be the newest classic on the block. It is considered to have inspired many bartenders around the world to experiment with preserves ever since. For our spin on this modern classic, we upped the lemon juice a little and added in an egg white to take breakfast to the next level. Enjoy!
