Wine and Movie

Let’s face it, Valentine’s Day is not the easiest day for everyone. While many of us without dates are fine making plans with friends, or pretending the day doesn’t even exist, for others this task is not so easy.

A few days ago, one such friend of ours explained how much they hate the holiday. When we asked what they were up to their response was, “sitting alone sulking on my couch.”

This is no way to spend a holiday! Even though you may not have a date, there’s no reason not to at least celebrate yourself on Valentine’s Day. In the words of Tom Haverford “Treat Yo Self!” We’re big believers in finding moments in our year where we celebrate ourselves and reflect on how hard we’ve worked. Who cares if Valentine’s Day is traditionally a holiday for couples and Russel Stovers chocolates. Today, make it about you!

The great thing is, there are many ways to treat oneself, you could make or order a nice meal, buy yourself a present or pick up a great bottle of wine. Being a site devoted to wine, we think you know where we stand regarding this decision.

The other nice thing about treating yourself is that you don’t alway have to spend a ton of money to do it. If you want to go out and buy a bottle of Burgundy, Barolo or Bordeaux, of course feel free, but all you really need to treat yourself is a smooth, easy drinking bottle of wine that you can slowly finish over the course of the evening.

A bottle we love for such an occasion is Cannonball Cabernet Sauvignon from California, a wine that was first introduced to us by our wine geek several years ago. This is a jammy red wine with tons of big, bold fruit flavors (read: easy drinking), right on theme with Valentine’s Day. You could pop this bottle and make yourself a nice steak with a side of mashed potatoes, or just place it on the coffee table, sink into your couch, turn on a movie and let its high percentage of alcohol help you float away, putting a wonderful cap on your week. And if you aren’t able to finish the entire bottle of wine, no worries, it was only fifteen bucks.

Happy Valentine’s Day.
