The Story Behind The Spicy Avocado Coconut Margarita

Recently, I’ve seen so many recipes calling for avocado that I’m pretty sure the trend goes beyond guacamole. I’ve always wanted to try a cocktail with avocado, but let’s be honest: the ingredient is pretty intimidating. Because avocado is rich in healthy fat, it can be difficult to use in cocktails. But I’m always up for a challenge, and a margarita seemed like the perfect cocktail to experiment with. After all, avocado is naturally complementary with Mexican food as the margarita.

In creating this cocktail, I had to find a way to make it stay true to the avocado’s smooth texture without being too heavy, so I decided to incorporate coconut milk. To amp up the flavor I added a bit of jalapeño for spiciness. I also used tajín – a seasoning from Mexico that is primarily chile, lime, and salt – to rim my margarita glasses. The tajín added a salty and tangy flavor to the sweet cocktail. Best of all, this cocktail is easily made in a blender, so it’s a perfect party treat to intrigue and delight your guests.

Ingredients

  • ½ Cup Ice
  • 5 Ounces Tequila
  • 5 Ounces Coconut milk
  • 1 Ounce Lime juice
  • 1 Teaspoon Agave nectar
  • ¼ Avocado
  • ½ Orange, juiced
  • ¼ Jalapeño
  • Tajín to rim the glass

Directions

  1. Fill a blender with all of the ingredients except for the tajín.
  2. Blend until smooth, then rim your glass with the tajín before pouring in the blender’s contents.
  3. Feel free to add limes and enjoy your fiesta!
