The Story Behind The Sloe Gin 75

The French 75, a classic Champagne cocktail with many varying origin stories, is one of the best drinks for a warm summer’s day. I’ve given it a bit of a reboot with sloe gin, a spirit I tasted for the first time last year when I visited the Monkey 47 distillery in Germany. I’m always looking for fun ways to use it in cocktails, and figured the French 75 was a great place for it. I also added some peach bitters to balance the sweetness and add a little fruity, tropical flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ ounces sloe gin
  • 1 ounce lemon juice
  • 2 dashes peach bitters
  • Sparkling wine to top (approximately 2 ounces)

Directions

  1. Combine sloe gin, lemon juice, and peach bitters in a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Shake hard to chill and combine.
  3. Fine strain into a coupe.
  4. Top with sparkling wine.
