The Story Behind The Ruby Sour

When made right, a New York Sour is a delicious combination of bold, sweet, and balanced flavors. I wanted to take it to the next level, so I came up with this Old 502 Sour. It features aromatic bitters, bourbon, and wine, all produced in Kentucky.

The balance of this cocktail relies a lot on the dry red wine. Whether you tend to prefer sweeter or drier wines is a good indicator of the type of bottle to use here.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ ounces bourbon
  • ½ ounce aromatic bitters
  • 1 ounce lemon juice
  • ½ ounce orange juice
  • ½ ounce agave syrup
  • 1 ounce dry red wine
  • 1 egg white

Directions

  1. Combine everything except the wine in a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Shake hard to chill and combine.
  3. Fine strain into a coupe glass.
  4. Float red wine on top.
  5. Garnish and enjoy!
