The Story Behind The Pomegranate Lemonade Martini

If April is the cruelest month as T.S. Eliot once said, then surely May is the most jubilant one. With those spring breezes and their promise of summer, we want to spend all day every day outside, with a refreshing beverage to complement the weather, natch. To this end, we are sharing a delicious cocktail equal parts lemonade and Martini, bringing those sweet and sour childhood memories into your twenty first century.

I took my favorite childhood beverage, lemonade, and combined it with some fresh seasonal pomegranate juice. The botanicals of the gin are the perfect accolade for this marvelous concoction, echoed by the sprig of thyme used as a garnish. Mixing in the right amount of pomegranate is the trick, to balance out the sweetness of the lemonade.

Ingredients

  • 5 ounces gin
  • ¾ ounce lemonade
  • ½ ounce pomegranate juice
  • 1 cup ice
  • Thyme sprig for garnish

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients into a mixing glass with a cup of ice
  2. Stir gently for 30 seconds to chill and combine ingredients
  3. Strain into a coupe glass
  4. Garnish with a sprig of thyme
