Farmers in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and California do grow beans; still, the United States also imports a lion-sized quantity. For 30 years, we led the world in coffee imports. It’s perhaps no surprise that coffee-loving countries like Italy and Japan are among the top importers, but others, like the Netherlands, belie their relatively small population size by importing a sizable amount.
