Justing Vineyards 2014 Sauvignon Blanc

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, Sauvignon Blanc is an ideal summer wine. Light, refreshing and downright quaffable, it’s the wine you want to have on hand whenever you’re outside. Yep, it’s summer in a glass. And with the last month of summer sadly upon us, we wanted to share one of our favorite recent discoveries – Justin Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc.

While most people immediately think of Napa and Sonoma when it comes to California wine, the Central Coast is a treasure trove of incredible wines to be discovered, and thanks to the fact that these wines are still somewhat under the radar, they can often be very affordable. Justin Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc is a perfect example; at $15 a bottle, this is a wine you can buy a case of and easily serve it at your Labor Day party.

When poured in the glass, the wine has the distinctive grassy smell of Sauvignon Blanc along with a lovely aroma of melon, lemon and even flowers. The wine is nice and crisp, but doesn’t have an overly aggressive bright and sharp acidity that many Sauvignon Blancs are known for. Instead the wine takes on a rounder and fuller appearance. It also doesn’t linger for too long on the palate, subtly disappearing after you swallow.

Being from California with the hot summer sun beating down on the grapes, the wine is higher in alcohol – at 14.5% – than its Old World counterparts, so just don’t finish the bottle all by yourself. This wine is for sipping, after all.
