Vallepicciola Chianti Classico DOCG 2015 Review

Sangiovese needs to be at least 80% of a Classico blend, but thankfully this winemaker goes all the way. In true Castelnuovo Beradegna style this 100% Sangiovese is deep, smooth, and chewy with a nice medium to full bodied structure. The tannin is young, but not overwhelming, and adds a nice backbone to the cherry, tobacco leaf and earth tones showing a real sense of place. There is a hint of vanilla from the oak, but it is gloriously in the background due the the large tonneaux barrels used to age the wine. The alcohol though is a bit high, making it a great food wine.
