Seven Falls Cellars Wahluke Slope Merlot 2014 Review

Seven Falls' Merlot vineyard is located in the Wahluke Slope (Wanapum for watering hole), a unique warm, dry zone in the Columbia Valley AVA. The soil is known for its gravel bench, allowing for excellent drainage, and this Merlot shows that meso-climactic awesomeness with a soft, silky palate, well integrated tannin and good, high-ish acidity. The nose shows typical cherry and blackberry fruit with some earthy herbal notes that only arise when this grape is well taken care of and in the right climate. It is full bodied and rich due to that great salinity running throug,h accentuating the calm note of oak rising from the core. This is a great wine to sit and chill with friends and a cheese plate or to get the night started.
