Pike Hive Five
Review
Pike Hive Five, a golden ale with honey, is Washington grown in every way: local grains include organic pale, organic pils, Munich, Carapils, wheat, and flaked oats; hops (Amarillo and Bravo) hail from the Yakima Valley; and local honey is harvested from an apiary overlooking the scenic Snoqualmie Falls in Snoqualmie. Its story may be the most interesting thing about Hive Five. Pouring a clear, yes, honey color with sparse carbonation and minimal head retention, and with a crisp body, touch of malt sweetness, and dry finish, Hive Five goes by easy as a breezy afternoon. A lingering cracker/biscuity aroma improves the enjoyment. Don't dwell too much on this beer: Bring it to the beach. Sip it on your porch. Let your thoughts fly by. If you're lucky, you might be left with a buzz.
