Chalk Hill Estate Red 2015 Review

This is a classic, rich, elegant, Cabernet-driven red blend from a rather remote area of Sonoma County. Malbec, Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Syrah make up the remainder of this nicely balanced blend. Aromas include red and black bramble fruit, and a hint of tea leaves and dried jasmine. Flavors are very fruit-forward, with a tannic, savory backbone. The oak is very well integrated, and adds more to the texture than the flavor. The texture is surprisingly lithe, with a long finish that does not fatigue the palate. While the ABV is a ripe 14.9%, this is not a perceptibly "hot" wine. Anyone who enjoys New World style Cabernet will appreciate this flavorful, nuanced wine.
