Cascade Brewing Sang Rouge 2015 Review

Immediately evoking flavors of an Old World Flemish red or oud bruin, Sang Rouge places itself in a category all its own: Cascade’s coined “Northwest Sour Ale.” This barrel-aged blend of red ales made with Northwest-grown ingredients pours a murky, mahogany-brown color reminiscent of cola, settling in with a ring of tan head. Aromas of oak and red berries punctuate a palate that's tart, complex, and satisfying–medium-bodied, acidic without being too acidic, and malt-forward. Intense flavors of age, slight roast, toasted oak, and dried fruit meld beautifully. This member of Cascade's "Sang" series is one for grain and grape lovers alike: rich, complex, and aged in red wine barrels and oak puncheons for up to 24 months, the fruity, spicy, sour Sang Rouge will take you to the Belgium-France border in a single, sepia-colored sip.
