Ackerman Crémant de Loire 'Cuvée 1811' Brut NV Review

Founded in 1811, Maison Ackerman was the first winery to produce Crémant de Loire, a bubbly made in the traditional method (i.e., the same techniques used to produce Champagne). The 'Cuvée 1811' Brut is a blend of 70% Chenin Blanc, 20% Chardonnay, and 10% Cabernet Franc, aged on the lees in bottle for at least 18 months prior to disgorgement and release. The color is a pale gold, and aromas include crisp green apples and a hint of orange blossoms. The texture is both fresh and creamy, with a persistent mousse of fine bubbles, and a long, dry finish. Flavors include more green apples, lemon zest, and a hint of buttered toast. While it's not quite as complex as an actual Champagne, at $18 it's a great bargain that over-delivers. Pop it open for a special occasion, or just pop it open and make any occasion special.
