Monday Night Brewing Last Will and Testament
Review
Made at Monday Night Brewing's Garage facility, where experimental beers almost always end up in at least one type of barrel, Last Will and Testament spruces up the unjustly out-of-vogue English-style old ale with a lick of bourbon, hint of spice, and balanced brown sugar sweetness. Aromas of almonds and chocolate, "like an Almond Joy candy bar," one taster noted, are followed by a definitive bourbon barrel flavor, which heartily announces itself thanks to the beer's 14 months in barrels. Yet, this ale's silky mouthfeel lends a more sippable quality to barrel-aged beer, a style which is so often drowned by over-worked stouts. A testament to the bourbon barrel, and the not-oft-brewed Old Ale, this beer is one of Garage's best successes thus far, the essence of decadence without over-indulging.
