Domaine Laroche Les Blanchots Chablis Grand Cru 2015 Review

Kimmeridgian, a mixture of clay, chalk and oyster shells, is one of the most advantageous soil compositions for Chardonnay on the planet, it’s also the soil this grape was born in. The Grand Cru designation for Burgundy represents the best sites and in Chablis, where oak is most often used only for partial barrel fermentation, these vineyards produce some of the purest expressions of this grape. Here we can see this with quiet notes of pear, lemon and a push and pull between hazelnut and tangy acacia, as the perception of wet flint rock exposes some balanced hints of dill and creamy mint. The mouthfeel has a tautness pronouncing some lean jackfruit and soft jasmine. This is an age-worthy wine that will only get more interesting as the tertiary aromas develop over time.
