Chateau Tire Pe 'Diem' 2017 Review

Not often are food and Merlot in the same sentence. The variety plays either a supporting role or is juicy and round enough to pair with Netflix more than the dinner table. But here is one from the grape’s native land that has a structure demanding a meal. The nose greets you with a waft of black pepper, earthy shrub brush and a healthy hit of cedar (probably the result of a natural yeast fermentation). The wine has great acidity, lifting the wine on the palate and giving you even more cedar (maybe pine tips?) with added plum, a hint of cinnamon and a tight currant that pronounces the grip of tannin. Lean grilled meats such as boar, lamb or squab would be great compliment to this wine.
