Castello di Spessa Friulano Collio DOC 2017 Review

Friulano, from northeastern Italy, was once called something else until about a decade ago, so it makes sense that you may not have heard of it. But here is your chance to intro yourself to a new, awesome grape. Check this out, the nose is a trio of wisteria (childhood memory of mine), rose petals, quiet eucalyptus and sage; there’s some honeysuckle hanging out with a lemon rind and some pear. That is one hell of a profile. Now get this, all of those characteristics carry through to the palate, with the addition of a little bit of almond, but a beautiful, broad, deep mouthfeel making the wine almost full bodied. This is a white wine you can actually have with light proteins, even fall stews, can you dig it? Welcome to Friulano.
