Castello di Meleto Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2015 Review

You can tell from the first sip that this wine is age worthy (Classicos can age 10-15 years). The winemaker knew where they were going this one it seems and it’s nice that they went full Sangiovese here. Fuller than most Classico, especially single varietal, this wine is rich and spicy with notes of balsamic and pepper mingling with classic sour cherry notes. It has a very Sangiovese tannin structure giving backbone to the wine while not drying it out. The mouthfeel is broad and chewy while the tannin slips and slides in and out of focus due to the work of very well-placed acidity. This wine is drinking well now, but can probably go another few years and only get better. If you are thinking about laying down some Classico this is one to grab.
