Argentina is not all about Malbec. They also love their Cab and this collab between Catena and Barons de Rothschild shows us why. There is more Cab than Malbec in this wine and the result is what you would expect from winemakers at this level. It is well structured with a nice tannic grip and the Cab is doing most of the work with dark blackberry fruit, pencil wood and forest floor taking center stage. The Malbec, playing second fiddle, helps round the wine out, giving it a comfy, chewy depth to counteract the tannin. It is a young wine that will age for a few more years but is drinking well now and is ready for a big ol’ steak. Actually, it feels like this wine was made for just that purpose, especially with that price.
