Altamana Grande Reserve Malbec 2015 Review

There is too much awesome potential with this wine, this region, and this country to put into a quick review but you should go to the Altamana website and read what these guys are doing because it’s awesome. Coming from south of the Maule river in Chile and made by a winemaker from Bordeaux, from vines planted in the 1920’s, this is a great example of what Malbec can taste like when taken care of. Medium bodied and lean with a nice, savory fruit depth of herbs, cracked black pepper and olives along with raspberry and marinated cherries, the wine has a great balance between umami, there is a hint of cigar box, and fruit forwardness, with well integrated tannins. If you are looking to take a break from the overpowering character of Argentinian Malbecs, give this one a try and fire up the grill with some lean meats.
