How To Make A Vieux Carre

Invented at the New Orleans Hotel Monteleone’s iconic Carousel Bar in 1938, the Vieux-Carre is named after the city’s French Quarter. This potent drink includes Rye, Cognac, Sweet Vermouth and a bar spoon each of Angostura and Peychaud’s bitters. Stir over ice, strain, and don’t forget the lemon twist for garnish.

Vieux Carre Ingredients

  • 1 ¼ oz Rye
  • 1 ¼ oz Cognac
  • 1 oz Sweet Vermouth
  • 1 Bar spoon Benedictine
  • 1 dash Angostura Bitters
  • 1 dash Peychaud’s Bitters

Vieux Carre Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in mixing glass with ice.
  2. Stir.
  3. Strain into chilled cocktail glass.
  4. Garnish with lemon twist and enjoy.
