The Story Behind The Blackberry Bourbon Sour

Today I am sharing one of my favorite summer cocktails, the Blackberry Bourbon Sour. I am a big fan of bourbon and I like to demonstrate how it is a versatile spirit that can be enjoyed through all seasons. I first made this cocktail last summer when blackberries were abundant. In Seattle, blackberries grow wild all over the city so it’s always fun to find a blackberry patch. With all the blackberries, I made multiple cocktails with different spirits but this one was my favorite. The spiciness of the bourbon goes very well with the fresh blackberries and lemon juice.

This cocktail reminds me of enjoying a summer pie and lemonade. The spices in the bourbon remind me of berry pies that I had when I was a child. In addition to the recipe below you can add an egg white to give the cocktail more body.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 ounces of bourbon
  • 1 ounce of lemon juice
  • ½ ounce of simple syrup
  • 5 blackberries plus more for garnish
  • ½ cup of ice

  1. Fill cocktail shaker with bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup, blackberries, and ice
  2. Shake mixture, then strain into serving glass
