The Story Behind The Smoky Cranberry Mezcal Madras

The end of the calendar year marks cranberry season and cranberry sauce is set to take the stage at millions of dinner tables this during the holidays. Casamigos Mezcal, sweet orange liqueur and fresh pressed lime juice get a Thanksgiving-influenced, cranberry sauce-inspired tone in this seasonal riff.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ ounce Casamigos Mezcal
  • 1 ounce orange liqueur
  • ½ ounce lime juice
  • 1 ounce cranberry juice
  • sugared cranberries for garnish (optional)

Directions

  1. Using a sharp knife and cutting board, slice the lime in half. Using a citrus reamer, press juice out into a cup or bowl and set aside.
  2. Add mezcal, orange liqueur, lime juice and cranberry juice to the cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker with ice and shake until thoroughly chilled.
  3. Strain into coupe glass.
  4. Drop in sugared cranberries to garnish.

  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 12 ounces fresh cranberries

Sugared Cranberry Garnish Directions

  1. Bring water and sugar to a simmer over medium-high heat in a medium-sized saucepan.
  2. Remove from the heat once simmering and stir in 12 ounces fresh cranberries. Let sit for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Transfer the cranberries to wax paper in a single layer, and allow to dry for 30-40 minutes.
  4. Once dried, pour remaining sugar mixture over cranberries and toss.
  5. Let sit and dry.
