In the wake of the tragedy that occurred this past week at the offices of Charlie Hebdo, it’s important that we remember the lives of those artists who were killed, including all of their contributions to the artistic community, as trivial as they might seem in comparison to the work of their political cartoons. As originally appeared in Le Monde a few days ago, as one would expect, many of the talented cartoonists we lost were great lovers of wine. And the wine they loved wasn’t for collecting, it was for the reason all of us should love wine: it was because it was the drink they shared with friends, the beverage that brought them closer together, that they would have political discussions over, and that helped spark moments that would help them see the world in different ways.

It was this love for wine that caused many of them to create beautiful cartoons about the beverage, which we share below as a tribute to these incredibly talented individuals. As the writers of Le Monde suggested, there would be no more fitting a tribute to these talented artists than opening a bottle of good wine among friends, laughing and continuing to have the thought-provoking debates regarding the issues of today that their cartoons often challenged. It is through this that their spirits will continue to live on and remind us all that we are human.
