There's a new sitcom about beerWho amongst us didn’t love Drinking Buddies, the movie about a craft brewery starring an adorable Anna Kendrick? The cool fantasy of working in the beer industry has obvious appeal – which makes movies and shows about brewing instantly attractive. There are more examples of the joys of beer on screen than Drinking Buddies. Take Brew Masters, which focused on Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione, a highly rated series that drew in about a million viewers an episode. Brew Masters was eventually pulled from Discovery Channel due to threats from macro breweries, who made Discovery choose between their Big Beer ad revenue or the show. However, the stars of the new series L.A Beer won’t have that problem, because the Silver Screen Brewery they work at is fictional.

That’s right, a scripted show about beer will now debut on May 11, 2015 – the start of American Beer Week. A step away from Drinking Buddies and Brew MastersL.A Beer is filmed in front of a live studio audience, so expect heehawing and giggling as characters Sally and David misadventure onstage. Check out the trailer:

It looks like it could be the next Scrubs for beer, a not-quite-realistic but pretty humorous look at a specific industry.

In true millennial fashion, the series was funded through Kickstarter and will premier via YouTube. In case you’re nostalgic for the 90’s, it’s the first YouTube series to be filmed in front of a live studio audience. The alcohol industry could definitely use more than the representation of just Bar Rescue. We’ll definitely be having a watch.
